A kaumātua grant of $260 will be paid in mid-November 2016 to all enrolled Ngāi Tahu aged 65 and older. Letters regarding the payment will be posted mid-September. Currently we have around 260 people (below) who are listed as enrolled on our database and therefore are eligible to receive the grant but for whom we don’t have an up-to-date address. If you are able to provide any updated details for anyone listed here or if you have any queries please email: [email protected] or call the contact centre on 0800 942 472.

We are aware that some of the people on this list may have passed away. If this is the case we apologise for any distress this may have caused and ask that you contact us as soon as possible, so we can update our information.

Tahua Taunaki Akonga – Learner Support Fund

Funding is available through Tahua Taunaki Akonga (formerly known as Out of School Tuition) to enable you to access personalised tuition to support your tamariki and further their progress at school.

Funding is available to registered Ngāi Tahu students aged between five and 18 years- of-age.
One term of funding is available per financial year (up to a maximum of $450).

Applications are to be submitted at least two weeks prior to term commencement in which the tuition is to be undertaken. Provision is also available on a case by case basis for tamariki with special learning needs. [Read more…]

2015 matched savings*

If you haven’t saved using Whai Rawa during 2015, now is the time to save some pūtea to qualify for the 2015 matched savings*. All full members who save before 31 December will be eligible to have up to $200* matched by Te Rūnanga, with those aged 15 and under getting $4 to every $1 saved, and those aged 16-64 matched at $1 to $1.

Online banking is the quickest and easiest way to save, you just need to reference your Whai Rawa account number. There is an AP form included in this issue of Te Pānui Rūnaka that has our bank account details, so don’t delay. [Read more…]

All those Christchurch-based whānau who have been meaning to join Whai Rawa should come along to our roadshow on the weekend of Saturday 7-Sunday 8 November from 10am- 3pm at Te Whare o Te Waipounamu, 15 Show Place, Addington, Christchurch.

Adults, bring your ID and proof of address (more details on our website at www.whairawa.com) and if you’re registering a new whānau member with the whakapapa unit at the same time, bring a full birth certificate for them too.

We’ll be at Hui-a-Iwi later in November too for those whānau who are based locally in Dunedin.

The Kā Pūtea Scholarship Panel comprising Lisa Tumahai, Liz Brown (Papatipu Rūnanga education rep) and James Caygill (GM Tribal Interests) met in early June to award the 2013 Kā Pūtea targeted and general scholarships.

The table below lists the 22 scholarships approved ($1,500 per scholarship). The remaining scholarship applications have been sent to Papatipu Rūnanga who will each allocate up to $1,500 (this may be split between more than one recipient).
