Notice of postal ballot and nominations

Postal vote
Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Waewae is due to conduct a postal vote to elect the appointment committee that will be responsible for appointing the rūnanga representative and their alternate to Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu.

Members are invited to both ensure that we have a valid current postal address for them and that they are properly registered.

All potential members, who are 18 years and over and would like to participate in the voting process for the appointments committee are invited to apply to register by returning the rūnanga registration form to the rūnanga office before 5pm on 18 March 2016. All potential members are encouraged to register with Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Waewae.

Registration forms can be requested from our rūnanga office and are to be received by Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Waewae Office by 5pm, 18 March.

Kaumātua have been meeting at the marae every Wednesday for waiata practice from 10am- 12pm. If anyone would like any more information on this kaupapa please ring the office.

This year, Waewae Pounamu and Tē Rūnanga o Ngāti Waewae were both finalists at the 2015 Leading Light Business Excellence Awards.

We all attended the black tie event at Shantytown on 8 May to celebrate the success of local businesses around our rohe.

Waewae Pounamu were finalists in the retail award and Ngāti Waewae were finalists in the not for profit award. Neither placed first but we were finalists in our sections and that is a huge achievement. [Read more…]

Marae development

The official opening of the Arahura Whare Tīpuna is Friday 21 November 2014.
The dawn ceremony (blessing) will be held at 6am, with the official marae-opening pōwhiri to be held at 10am.

American students visit Arahura

Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Waewae welcomed a rōpū of American students to Arahura on 29 June. The group visited with Kea Tours. We all enjoyed time together and the visiting students enjoyed trying new foods – especially the pumpkin soup. Afterwards they were taken on a hīkoi to Arahura River to learn about our legends of Poutini and Waitaiki. [Read more…]
