Kia Kūrapa ki Tuahiwi

Kia Kūrapa ki Tuahiwi 24-26 May at Tuahiwi Marae. This wānaka will focus on te reo Māori for beginner to intermediate learners. This will be an opportunity to learn some of the local history as well as Kāi Tahu waiata and karakia. Thanks from the Pohio whānau

It is now two years since we lost Joseph Te Hau Pohio, so tragically in the February 22 earthquake. One life was saved by his action in the earthquake, and in that action Joe gave his life. During this sad time we were helped by so many people, many of whom we never got a chance to thank personally. The visit from Pita Sharples, Mark Solomon and Ngāi Tahu whānau and their waiata and support was much appreciated and will always be remembered. Owners of Section 34 Kaiapoi Māori Reserve 873 are invited to attend a shared kai and meeting.

Nāia te tāwhiri, nāia te karanga, tēnei te mihi ki a koutou. The Tuahiwi Marae Trustees and Ngāi Tū Ahuriri Rūnanga welcome you to join in the celebrations for the opening of the new whare, Maahunui.

When: Saturday 1 December 2012
Time: 10.30am.

Please gather at Tuahiwi Urupā (corner Greens Road and Tuahiwi Road). From there you will be led by the Ngā Pou o te Haahi Ratana band to the marae car park, ready for the blessing.

Immediately after the blessing, there will be a pōwhiri to welcome everyone. Celebrations will continue throughout the day with whakawhanaungatanga, entertainment and kai.

Wānanga reo

Tuahiwi School is the venue for a Mā te Reo funded wānanga on 27-28 October. This is the third in a series of four wānanga aimed to lift te reo Māori usage by people who live in Tuahiwi.
