Prior to last year’s tītī season, local sculptor, kaumātua and rūnanga member, Allen Harnett, gifted an Ōāmaru limestone sculpture to Awarua Rūnanga. However, the unveiling of this lovely piece of sculpture has only just been completed when it was moved to its final resting place behind the rūnanga office, at the top of the pathway that joins the driveway up to the marae.

Allen has named this sculpture, Ipu Whenua and says it was inspired by Kewa the mokopuna of Kiwa. The rūnanga trustees and members would like to extend our thanks once again to Allen for his generous gift.
